Empowering Women in Tech
A Recap of Wetech Female Founders Conference 2023
What is better than one brand being super interested in the professional growth of women everywhere? Multiple brands! On December 9th, 2023, we got to see that at play when we attended the inaugural edition of the Wetech Female Founders conference themed “Women Defining Tech Entrepreneurship,” as an event partner. It was a delightful experience that brought a gathering of female founders, venture investors, and industry leaders in the tech space to the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel, Lagos. It was a day of panel sessions, breakout sessions and networking conversations on topics and themes such as Investor Funding to Prioritizing Mental Health and Growth Strategies, all with a focus on how it affects female-led startups. Some of the speakers and panelists include Koromone Asabe-Yobaere, co-founder and chief brand officer at Jamit; Flora Uwadiegwu and Gabriella Uwadiegwu, co-founders of Wetech; Oluwadunni Fanibe, Program Manager at Techstars; Kristin Wilson, venture partner at Oui Capital and CSO at Spurt; Dolapo Morgan, Investor, Ventures Platform Fund; and Ifeoma Nwobu; co-founder and COO at Sendstack, among others. There was also the exciting PitchHer competition where female startup founders pitches their ideas for a chance to win ₦1.5m, and the winner was Morayo Ojikutu of Flow, a learning platform for children. The other participants were Rhoda Orovwiroro, co-founder of Helgg; Lawretta Egba, CEO of Mustard Insights; Dr Kieva Chris-Amusan, CEO of Fertitude; and Chinwe Udo-Davis, CEO and co-founder of Instollar. Wetech was founded in 2018 and since then it has been dedicated to building a space where women in the Tech world are empowered and access opportunities and community. The brand’s goal is to “lower the entry barrier into tech and funnel more women into the industry by creating opportunities for networking, mentorship, and community building” and this event was a great indicator of that. This partnership was a great way for us to connect with the impressive women within the Tech Space who were excited to learn of Women’s Space and the different ways we are transforming the corporate and professional landscape for women by providing access to the resources, community and opportunities to ensure they thrive in both their personal and professional lives. We were able to interact with like-minded brands on a mission to transform different sectors, one idea at a time. At Women’s Space, we are committed to contributing to the initiatives of brands that share a similar goal with us, thus partnerships of this nature are very important to us. They also provide a great way for us to connect us with organizations and individuals whose lives can be transformed by the brand through our resources and community, and who can go on to partner with us to reach more women.
